Care Guide
Look after your pieces and they'll look after you. Always check the care label inside each garment first, as it overrides the general guidance below.
Knitwear
- Wash cool (30°C or below) on a gentle or wool cycle, inside out, or hand wash.
- Dry flat on a towel. Never hang a wet knit, because it stretches.
- Fold rather than hang to keep the shoulders in shape.
- Remove bobbling with a fabric shaver or knit comb.
Shirts, overshirts & tees
- Wash at 30°C with similar colours, buttons undone and inside out.
- Hang to dry on a hanger to reduce ironing.
- Iron cotton while slightly damp. Iron cord and printed pieces inside out.
Trousers, chinos & jeans
- Wash less often, and inside out, to keep colour deep for longer.
- Cool wash, then hang by the waistband to dry.
- Avoid the tumble dryer to protect fit and length.
Coats, puffers & padded jackets
- Spot clean small marks with a damp cloth first.
- For padded pieces, follow the label. Many can be machine washed on a gentle cycle and dried on low with a couple of clean tennis balls to lift the padding.
- Wool-blend coats: brush after wear and use a specialist cleaner when needed.
- Store on a wide hanger, never compressed, over summer.
Footwear
- Brush suede-finish shoes and boots with a soft suede brush once dry. Use a protector spray before first wear.
- Wipe smooth uppers with a damp cloth, and clean white soles with a mild soap.
- Use shoe trees or stuffed paper to keep shape, and let pairs rest a day between wears.
Activewear & underwear
- Wash at 30°C without fabric softener, which can reduce stretch and breathability.
- Line dry. Heat shortens the life of elastic.
